Baby Boomer Boy Toys

Baby Boomers are some of the most creative, innovative, get-it-done kind of people I know.

In the 80’s, I lived in the Bitterroot Valley in south west Montana. I moved there to raise a family and get away from the insanity of city life. In case you are not familiar with Montana, here is a picture I took from my daughter’s house in April 2009.

In Montana, people often have multiple professions. I met a guy one day who was working for the garbage company during the day, raised goats, and had a PhD in Biology.

One of the most coveted jobs - when I lived there - was working for the Forest Service. The spring and summer seasons were relatively short which meant the staffers could work about six months a year and collect unemployment and ski throughout the winter.

Not only that, working for the Forest Service they always knew the finest locations for free standing-dead lodge pole pine - which meant they had all the firewood they needed in exchange for a few days work, some chain saw gas and a couple of cases of beer.

A buddy of mine - a Bitterroot native - owns a post pounding (rural fencing) company, raises and sells sheep and chickens, has owned a water well drilling company and worked in the oil rigs in Wyoming.

Everybody raises some of their own food as well as living and flowing with the cycles of nature. Living in Montana is a healthy and powerful lifestyle and produces generations of hearty and capable people who can do just about anything.

And the people are helpful and generous. They enjoy life and live it fully. They take time out to relax and have fun on a regular basis and enjoy the beauty of nature in one of the prettiest places on the planet. When I lived there I learned:

  • how to be healthy and that
  • when you chose a place that is in alignment with your truth, you become strong and powerful.

There is a natural power in the mountains.

When you are healthy and powerful, it is easy to be playful.

This morning I got an email from a friend of mine in Montana with a picture of a Baby Boomer Boy Toy that I wanted to share with you. The guy that sent me this is one of the nicest, funniest and smartest guys I know and one heck of a mechanic. He can fabricate anything from a building to a sophisticated mechanical device of any magnitude.

He did not fabricate this real man’s snowmobile, however.

Tell me you don’t want to open that throttle and see what happens?

I do…

Here are a couple more Baby Boomer Toys:

First, a black on black F40 Ferrari…

Although I love this car as a thing of beauty - and as the last model actually designed by Enzo Ferrari before he died - this is a car that I want to purchase for a friend of mine as a gift for his collection.

My friend has been an auto enthusiast as far back as I can remember. He is one of the best drivers I have ever known personally, a top flight professional level mechanic and has owned many amazing cars. In high school, he owned an immaculate VW Bug with a Porsche Super C engine in it that would eat GTO Judges for lunch.

He is in the Shelby Club Book in twice and had one of the cleanest Dino’s I have ever seen, a 98 point concourse car. When I am able, I am going to buy a black Ferrari F40 for his collection because of all the people I know personally, he is the one who appreciates it the most. And he will care for it properly as a legacy for the future.

And one of my favorite Baby Boomer Toys for Boys from:Jay Leno’s collection, a 1930 KJ Henderson 4…

I blogged about this about a year or two ago on Healthy Wealthy Boomer - 1931 Henderson KJ

Leno has a huge garage, car and motorcycle collection and fabrication shop. There is a link to a video on his site about the KJ, it’s fun video.

Baby Boomers need to play more to be healthy. We take ourselves too seriously most of the time.

Life is a blast - have a fabulous day.
